A buildable Runic Chest uses the vanilla chest window, with dedicated unlimited slots for runes, great runes and socket punches. Empty slots show dimmed icons; left-click withdraws a normal stack and right-click selects a rune for crafting from the chest.
A centered working slot above the rune rows holds any item for repeated rune crafting; the item remains stored when the window closes.
Runes can be deposited by dragging, Ctrl-clicking or using Place stacks, and withdrawn with Take all. If the chest is destroyed, its contents remain in a recoverable cache.
Built with a hammer near the Rune Carver Table: 10 iron, 2000 azurite dust and 10 fine wood.
The runic chest uses the same inventory and crafting panels as an ordinary Valheim chest; runes can also be applied through its working slot.
Runes are grouped by purpose: the first row follows item crafting progression, the second holds other property modifications, and the third holds socket punches, transmog and utility runes.
Uses the small personal chest model from vanilla Valheim.
Skill tree
Evasion
Unbroken Footing
New
New keystone: passive evasions do not interrupt stamina regeneration; evasion rating is multiplied by ×0.7.
Combat and equipment
Sceptres
Sceptre damage
Changed
New Sceptres of the Pious have 20 total base damage instead of 50 and gain 6 instead of 25 damage per quality level.
New sceptre ascensions match total swing and Smite damage, including quality growth, to vanilla one-handed weapons of the target biome. Existing items and stored ascensions retain their values.
Slams
Blunt slam damage
Changed
Slams deal only blunt damage, including applicable flat bonuses; other damage types are excluded from the final hit, including conversion results. Ground Strike’s description and damage preview reflect this rule.
Interface and usability
Item tooltips
Weapon damage
Changed
Weapon tooltips no longer include the attribute damage multiplier in the separate bonus or penalty beside base damage; the damage range in parentheses still includes it. Other global damage modifiers remain visible.
Legacy items
Changed
Items with outdated affix rules or legacy jewel limits display a Legacy label near the bottom of their tooltip.
Fixes
Interface
Maker’s mark
Fixed
The master’s durability label now shows only the maker’s bonus, excluding the shared equipment durability increase.
Unique roll ranges
Fixed
Holding Alt shows numeric roll ranges from unique item tables, including pooled jewel properties. Legacy Trail of the First Antler jewels show their original ranges.
Giant’s Blow
Fixed
Giant’s Blow no longer uses the unrelated Barbed Arrows name in translations.
Staff of Bonds
Fixed
Linked allies also see the link status.
Support staff damage display
Fixed
Support staves no longer show weapon damage from character bonuses.
Inventory overlays
Fixed
The stack-splitting dialog and dragged item stay above inventory and container panels, including panels with their own canvas order.
Runic Chest closing
Fixed
Closing the runic chest no longer briefly shows the ordinary chest grid during the closing animation.
Runic Chest transfers
Fixed
Rune transfers are cancelled without changing items or balances if an inventory handler fails; repeated transfers during the same operation are blocked.
Runic Chest access
Fixed
Losing network ownership of an open Runic Chest blocks item transfers instead of passing them to the ordinary chest interface.
Runic Chest recovery
Fixed
A destroyed occupied Runic Chest retains its contents in the same persistent network object instead of copying them into another container. Unreadable rune data is preserved and cannot be overwritten by deposits.
Runic Chest crafting
Fixed
Crafting with a stored rune commits the item change and rune cost together after inventory handlers succeed; a cancelled operation restores the item.
Grouped map markers
Fixed
Right-clicking a grouped automatic map marker removes all its component markers and keeps them dismissed.
Arrows and bolts
Fixed
Arrow and bolt damage tooltips now include applicable projectile damage bonuses.
Evasion rating
Fixed
Evasion rating on equipment now links to its explanation; the explanation includes its effect on stamina regeneration.
Crafting
Extra meals
Fixed
Extra meals from crafting and cooking stations retain the cook’s nourishment, duration and freshness bonuses, including delayed portions collected by another player.
Salvaging ascended items
Fixed
Ascended equipment is no longer hidden from salvage and disenchant lists by the upgrade recipe filter.
Frostbone Call Staff
Fixed
The Frostbone Call Staff requires one less workbench level: quality 3 is available at workbench level 5.
Chest Feed after refilling
Fixed
Automatic smelter feeding resumes after a chest is refilled by another player and its network ownership changes. Open chests remain untouched.
Hugin’s workbench reach
Fixed
Hugin recognises another compatible workbench near the raven; leaving the workbench area produces one warning rather than repeated messages.
Runes
Great Rune of Fate
Fixed
On current unique jewels, the Great Rune of Fate rerolls numeric values while preserving property types and references. Legacy items are updated to the current rules only when the rune is explicitly applied.
Ascension damage
Fixed
New ascensions no longer lose damage because a later biome has a lower weapon-class reference; existing ascended item values stay unchanged.
Main tree
Actions started at full resources
Fixed
Repeated failed attack attempts no longer overwrite the active attack’s starting resources. Full-eitr area bonuses remain active after a spell spends eitr.
Regeneration from comfort
Fixed
Regeneration and other status bonuses based on comfort or changing resources now refresh as their source changes.
World
Portal loading
Fixed
Portal loading now promptly cleans up orphaned shield visual records instead of repeatedly recreating them. Live effects, persistent objects and records owned by other players are preserved.
Personal progression rewards
Fixed
Crafting stages, biome gathering rewards, ore detection and first unique-drop progress now follow the character’s own achievements.
Inscription Gate destination
Fixed
Inscription Gates verify that the destination portal still exists before travelling, including return links, instead of using a stale position after demolition.
Inherited server progress
Fixed
Fixed characters receiving unearned boss, dungeon, runestone and monolith rewards when joining a progressed server. Previously saved character achievements are preserved.
Companions
Companion persistence
Fixed
A lost companion record on the character is recovered from the uniquely owned loaded creature; older client records are migrated only after ownership is verified.
Combat
Smite target range
Fixed
Smite now applies general area bonuses to its explosion radius and additional-target search range, and area damage bonuses to direct hits.
Whole additional actions
Fixed
Additional strikes and projectiles use the whole part of their combined bonus; the character panel shows the same whole-unit value.
Critical Echo for Smite
Fixed
Critical Echo doubles the additional Smites once per action, including focused Smites.
Thrown tool tier
Fixed
Thrown weapons retain their tool tier on impact, allowing a bronze axe to damage birch and oak.
Links
Link duration
Fixed
Link retention now benefits from applicable buff and effect duration bonuses.
Compatibility
Balrond Shipyard
Fixed
Packing and redeploying a ship preserves its installed Balrond Shipyard upgrades and visual customizations.
Packed ships with BestAutoSort
Fixed
BestAutoSort no longer waits for construction materials when placing an already packed ship or portal; ordinary construction keeps its material checks.
Runic Chest server support
Fixed
Runic Chests can only be built after the server confirms support for them, preventing unknown structures from being removed by an unsupported server.
Equipment
Grappling hooks and harpoons
Fixed
Combat projectile bonuses no longer alter grappling hooks and harpoons.
Ring bonuses
Fixed
Ring bonuses and the character summary now refresh when a ring finishes equipping, its slot becomes unavailable or its properties change.
Scoped resistance bonuses, including ring resistances, are now listed under Defence in the character summary.
Server configuration
Character progression
Personal point rewards
Changed
Point reward settings apply to each character’s own boss victories, dungeon clears and runestone readings; their descriptions now explain personal storage.
Item base rolls
Damage catalog settings
New
The itemBaseRolls catalog supports damagePerLevelMultiplier for separate quality growth and oneHandedAscensionReference for one-handed biome references. Omitted settings retain the previous behavior; stored item values are preserved.
